Hibiscus tea with strawberry syrup is a combination of tangy hibiscus tea base and sweet strawberry syrup. This colorful appealing iced tea is a fantastic option for those who prefer caffeine-free beverages. In this article, let’s explore how to make a wonderful glass of hibiscus tea with strawberry syrup!

What is hibiscus tea?

Hibiscus tea is a renowned herbal tea with the characteristic deep red color. It is made from dried hibiscus sepals and is often enjoyed both hot and cold. With a long history, hibiscus tea comes from various regions of the world where the plant is traditionally used. Its roots might be in Africa and Asia, and Egypt, Sudan, and other North African countries have recorded major historical uses of this drink. Gradually, hibiscus tea has spread globally via trading and colonization.

The tea has a tangy refreshing taste, a bit like cranberries. Moreover, hibiscus tea is a rich source of antioxidants, along with many potential health benefits, such as controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Without sweeteners, hibiscus tea is a low-calorie drink without caffeine, making it an ideal choice for hydration and supporting weight loss. However, many people prefer sweetening it or adding fruits, herbs, and spices to add more flavor layers to this beverage. Due to its popularity, hibiscus tea is available in numerous forms, including loose tea, tea bags, instant tea, and RTD tea.

Does hibiscus tea pair well with strawberries?

Hibiscus is a common ingredient in tropical teas during summer because of its tangy and slightly sweet flavors. For those new to botanical components, adding some fruit flavors might help them reduce the discomfort with a new taste. As hibiscus has a fruit-leaning flavor profile, it will go well with deep crimson fruits, including strawberries. The blend of hibiscus and strawberries is beloved in both hot and iced teas.

Strawberries and hibiscus combine, creating a refreshing and vibrant blending. In terms of flavor, the tangy floral notes of hibiscus tea are complemented by the sweet, juicy flavors of strawberries. Besides, the vivid reddish-pink hues of strawberries and hibiscus tea will create a visually attractive and harmonious presentation. The refreshing, chilly strawberries and the warmth of hibiscus tea make for a delightful experience of temperature contrast.

What are the tips when making hibiscus tea with strawberry syrup?

To make strawberry syrup, both fresh and frozen strawberries can be used. Besides, because ripe strawberries have a natural sweetness, you should start with a small amount of sugar and then gradually add more until it suits your taste. Don’t worry if you make too much strawberry syrup, as it can be kept for up to 3 weeks if you put it in an air-tight container and store it in the fridge. Anytime you want to enjoy strawberry hibiscus tea, just simply take it out and scoop some teaspoons.

When making hibiscus tea, be careful with the spills because its deep red hue might spread quickly to other surfaces. You had better clean them up as soon as possible. In addition, instead of tea bags, you can brew loose hibiscus flowers. They often have higher quality with a stronger taste and color, but you will need a strainer to filter. Therefore, depending on your demands, you can choose the suitable tea products.

Hibiscus tea with strawberry syrup is best served right away. Besides, the extra one can be kept in the refrigerator for 2 days. Nevertheless, it is better to prepare a sufficient amount to use during the day, avoiding any unexpected side effects of drinking spoiled beverages.
