What tea goes well with lychee?

The fruity and floral sweetness of lychee makes it go well with various teas, which complement and boost its flavor.

Green tea: Green tea has a grassy and aromatic flavor profile, which can balance the sweetness of lychee and create a refreshing mix. Green tea is ideal for lychee iced tea.

Black tea: When combined with lychees, the bold and robust taste of black tea will add more depth to the flavor profile. It enhances the fruity notes and is best used in milk tea versions.

Oolong tea: The complex flavor notes of oolong tea can diversify and enhance the fruity complexity of lychee. Oolong tea often brings a premium experience and works well for hot and cold blends.

Jasmine tea: The natural floral undertone of lychee can be enhanced by the lightly fragrant jasmine flavor. It is also perfect for the iced lychee tea version.

Herbal tea: In addition to “real” tea variations, lychee can work well with numerous herbal teas, such as hibiscus, rooibos, lemongrass, or mint tea. Each herbal tea has its unique flavor, which helps diversify and enhance the aromatic notes of lychee.

  • 2 green or jasmine tea bags

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare lychee

  • When the sugar dissolves and the sugar water thickens, turn off the heat and let it cool.

Does lychee tea have caffeine?

Lychee tea is made from two main ingredients, including lychee and tea base. Because lychee is caffeine-free, the caffeine content of this drink depends on the tea base used. If prepared with traditional tea leaves, such as green, black, or oolong tea, lychee tea will be naturally caffeinated. Black tea base contains high caffeine content, at about 40-70 mg per serving, while the figure for green tea is about 20-45 mg. The stimulating effects of tea base are quite soothing, thanks to the L-theanine properties.

In addition, for those who want to enjoy the unique taste of lychee but are sensitive to caffeine, decaffeinated or herbal tea are great options. You can also adjust the amount of tea used or the brewing time to control the caffeine content. The longer the tea is brewed, the more caffeine is released.

What should you notice when making lychee tea?

When making lychee tea at home, several factors can affect the overall flavor and appearance of your drinks.

Ingredient quality

High-quality ingredients play an important role in creating a delicious glass of lychee tea. When choosing fresh lychees, opt for ripe ones with reddish skin and smooth thorns. Fresh lychee will have a pleasant scent, while old ones have an odd odor, similar to a fermentation smell. Ripe lychees contain natural sweetness, so don’t add too much sweeteners. Besides, tea quality is crucial to complement the lychee flavor. Tea products from FGC are produced from 100% fresh tea leaves cultivated from high mountain areas in Vietnam, bringing aromatic and rich flavors.

Brewing tips

Suitable water temperature and brewing time can vary depending on tea types. It is ideal to steep black tea at 90-95°C and green tea at 70-80°C to avoid bitterness. Additionally, over-steeping tea can make it clash with the sweetness of lychees. When making iced tea, letting the tea liquor chill before adding ice can prevent a watery taste.

Conclusion

Thanks to its unique flavor, potential health benefits, and versatility, lychee tea is getting popular. With a few ingredients, it is easy to prepare a glass of lychee tea to enjoy the tropical flavor. Besides, you can easily customize the tea bases, the amount of lychee, and sweeteners to suit your preference. Look for the good ingredients, give it a try, and enjoy the unique and aromatic lychee tea in every sip!
