Who should consider using matcha mint tea?
Mint leaves have been known as a helpful herbal for thousands of years. However, as with other tea, matcha mint tea has some side effects and is not suitable for some people. If you are in the following conditions, consider before adding this tea to your diet.
Pregnant women
Pregnant women need to follow a strict diet from doctors, so you should ask for a doctor’s advice before consuming matcha mint tea. Fluoride compounds in matcha powder may cause iron deficiency, and anemia, affecting fetal development. Although there are more studies needed to prove these effects, it is important to speak to your doctor before drinking this herbal tea.
People with acid reflux
Despite benefits for digestion and the stomach, matcha mint tea may worsen acid reflux. Mint leaves have some compounds which can cause the muscles in the esophagus to expand. This is a favorable condition for stomach acid to flow back into the esophagus, making gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) worse. Therefore, avoid using matcha mint tea if you are experiencing a GERD situation.
Medication Interactions
According to some studies, matcha mint tea may interact with medications for heartburn and acid reflux along with medications for blood pressure or diabetes. That’s why the matcha mint tea recipe is not recommended for those who are taking these medicines. It can lower blood pressure and blood sugar as well as make the heartburn condition get worse. A doctor’s advice is needed before consuming matcha mint tea.
