Mint and matcha tea: The perfect pair in beverages

mint and matcha tea

Not a traditional combination like mint and tea leaves but mint and matcha tea has become more and more popular in our daily life. So how to combine mint and matcha tea in a beverage? How does it taste?

Introduction

Both mint and matcha tea are so widely used in foods and beverages that you can easily find them on the menu of any cafe. The variations are also diverse from latte, and smoothie, to iced tea, and herbal tea. Let’s discover some amazing recipes with the harmony of matcha and mint tea in this article. This would be a perfect way to enjoy a matcha moment with a hint of fresh mint flavor.

What do mint and matcha tea taste like?

Mint and matcha tea has a great contribution to the taste and flavor of numerous beverages. Both of them have a distinctive taste with a strong aroma, adding appeal to any drink. They are also nutritious ingredients that offer plenty of benefits for human health.

Mint

Normally, due to the chemical compound called menthol, mint tastes slightly sweet and has a cooling sensation. This compound also creates a spicy effect in the mouth but is cold, not as hot or warm as pepper. Mint brings the same sensation as when you have ice in your mouth, so it is a popular ingredient in refreshing beverages.

Mint has hundreds of varieties grown around the world, which is the reason why mint leaves vary in taste and aroma. Some varieties may have a stronger taste with a touch of bitterness. Mint leaves are dark green and become tougher when they get older, so the best mint leaves to make tea are fresh and bright green in color.

Matcha

When drinking tea, people are only consuming the liquor of green tea leaves, but with matcha, they use the ground entire tea leaf. That’s why the taste of matcha is supposed to be something more intense and stronger than green tea. However, the matcha flavor is described as an amplified green tea taste, which is more complex and pleasant.

Growing in the shade for a long time and produced according to a unique method, matcha has an appealing bright green color with a pleasant taste. It has a complex flavor profile with a grassy, vegetal taste, a slight earthy bitterness, and a mild natural sweetness. High-quality matcha is smooth, rich, and nutty with a floral aroma.
